Fact-checking new claims in the Sarah Palin book

When Sarah Palin resigned as governor of Alaska before her first term was over, her father said she wasn't quitting the public stage. "Sarah's not retreating," he said. "She's reloading!"

Her new book Going Rogue: An American Life shows she has plenty of ammunition. Palin settles scores with the media and Republican political operatives, resets her public image as a devoted mom and gutsy politician, and attacks Democrats and Barack Obama for taking the country in the wrong direction.

Bummer of Oregon

You beat me to the punch, just when I was about to post this :P

So far, Palin already has: 2 true, 1 half-true, 1 barely true, and 4 false. This is going to be fun.

You know, I don't know how people can write a book anymore without fact checking before everything goes to 'print'...That step would sure save a lot of embarrassment if they had...

This is what the second, third, or fourth set of 'fact's checked' from the book now?...And most have 'proven false'...

Why waste the paper printing something so obviously wrong?...

This isn't a memoir, it's an attempt to rewrite history. Her fans will eat it up with a spoon, she gets to play the martyr. The rest of us will fact-check and roll our eyes... and, one would hope, remember, should she decide to put her name on a ballot that might land in front of us.

I will not give a single penny to this person. No--I will not be reading it. I'll do the second part, though.

I checked the library, they've got three copies on the shelf (according to the online database, a whopping one checked out). I may grab one.

Eh. If I want crappy fiction, I'll check out one of the Dune "sequels" by WhatsHis@!$%# Anderson and Brian Herbert.

:)

(And that reading this drabble of Palin's falls lower in priority than what I'm doing now, which is re-reading the Chronicles of Amber?)

HEY SCREW YOU RAINKISS!

I've had a pet rat named Corwin, one named Brand, a Fiona and a Dworkin.

Chronicles of Amber f-ing rock. Not so much the second five. Merlin was such a wussy.

(I'm objecting to the connection between my mentioning anything by Kevin Anderson and Zelazny, by the way--not to your reading it. I reread those once a year, or so, which isn't hard to do, since I'm pretty sure that each one is only like seven pages long).

Corwin died years ago (but from old age, so it's ok). Rats got too depressing. I moved on to cats named Cuhlwch and Olwen (Mabinogi, anyone?). Arthurian romance, ka-ka-kapow, right in your kitty litter. Actually, though, Amber is pretty good as far as Arthurian Romance goes. Better than T.H. White... but not as funny.

Yeah, we're cool, but thanks for checking, DCstone. We currently have multiple cats and a dog. Most interesting cat name at the moment is Nitwit. He earned his name as a kitten and lives up to him. He's the sweetest thing, but not a jot of a brain in his teeny little skull.

Ganymede? Like... Ganymede Elegy? That episode of Cowboy Bebop when Jet goes home to drop off a bounty, and finds out that his old girlfriend's new boyfriend Rent has a bounty on his head from when he killed a loanshark after they'd been unable to pay back the money that Rent had taken out on Alysa's bar Le Fin, because they couldn't afford to keep it open? And Jet finds out that Alysa left him 'cuz he was too controlling and she wanted the freedom to make her own decisions, even if they were the wrong ones, and Jet realizes that he's been carrying this torch for a woman who forgot about him after she finally grew up, and he realizes that people have to take care of themselves, first, and that trying to be everyone's father only actually means that he's infant-alizing everyone but himself? So he finally grows up, and comes to a new understanding about the self-consciousness of those around him, which is what, in the Real Folk Blues, finally lets him allow Spike to go after Viscious, even though he knows that Spike is willingly walking to his own death, because that's the way that Spike's dream has to end?

That's a good episode.

Actually, ah..no.

Never heard of it before...sorry.

But the dog was named after one of the moons of Jupiter...(daughters version)...mine is of the 'older version' (a male that 'Zeus' fell in love with)...which is really ironic since the dog is 'female'...but, my duaghter liked the word...so, the dog was named Ganymede...

ahhh, Krich, sorry we went so 'off topic'....but you know...when the cat's (you) away, the mice (us)will play...

Ah, yeah, right. Topic.

Give folks until Monday to finish reading and fact-checking, it should be fascinating. Me, I'm gonna print out a stack of the best list of lies I can find, go down to Borders, and helpfully insert a printout into each copy of the book on the shelf.
