Microsoft Corp plans to cut the price of its best-selling Xbox 360 Pro model by $50, to $299 in the next few weeks, the Hollywood Reporter reported citing anonymous sources.
If they do this I think that I will finally pick one up.
I don't call $50 a 'slash'. This machine has been out several years now. It needs a more agressive pricing structure than this.
$50 is hardly 'slashing' the price it's no more than a rebate but i guess considering who's reporting this [MSnbc] they need to draw attention to it somehow. why can't they just realize they overpriced it to begin with.
They are actually reporting it a day late. I read about it on most of the gaming and tech sites yesterday. This does help to confirm it though.
Big deal, Xbox already old. Are they cutting the prices on the games? Probably not.
Any idea what would happen to the Xbox 360 Arcade model, cause at $279 it becomes pretty much worthless should they cut the Pro to 299
I believe they stopped producing them.
This price drops mean on;y one thing... Thy and unload the inventory for the new system that will come with blu-ray on them. don't buy! wait for the next gen of X-box! U won't be sorry...
X-box sucks (regardless of which system). With PS3 and Wii, why would anybody want one? I have had nothing but problems with any and all of my Microsoft gaming systems and wouldn't take one if they gave it to me. I went to trade in my old X-box system, and they would only take it with the cords and a controller (which should go without saying) - at $15. Then, they turn around and sell it for over $100. I am in the wrong business!!! I LOVE my PS3 and can't wait to purchase a Wii next month.
360 has a great line of exclusive games.
I would keep my 360 over my wii anyday. At one time, the price of a combined 360 & Wii was around the same as a PS3.
Online play is the main reason I want a 360.
I think the arcade was just made so that they could get a cheaper system out there to help it compete with the Wii. If the main system drops in price then jfrank is probably right and there is no need to keep the arcade around.
i'll get one if they drop the price
Yay for being an Australian.
SoundScape,
Did you really need to rub that in.....again....
however....how much are you guys going to get nailed for those iPhone's from those friendly folks over at Vodafone or Optus "Yes we will overcharge you"...
Well I have no source, other than an email from my boss (who seems to have copied and pasted this little tid-bit):
Telstra
Telstra announced some details on its pricing plans. According to Telstra prices start at $279 for the 8 gig model and on a $30 plan, while the 16GB will be sold for $399.
On the $80 plan there will be no cost on 8GB iPhone, while on $100 plans either the 8GB or the 16GB will be at no cost. The contract length on plans will be 24 months.
The press release makes no mention of data pricing but does reveal that free WiFi access will be available to Telstra iPhone customers at Telstra hotspots.
Optus
Our source within Optus revealed that it will offer a $100 per month pre paid cap plan that includes you $800 worth of calls, $100 worth of Optus 'My Time' calls, and, wait for it, a hefty 1GB of data transfers. Data costs are a huge part of the overall cost of using an iPhone so this component can have a big impact on your overall bill. It's good to see that Optus is being reasonable here. On the downside, it appears that Optus iPhones will be locked to the network, and it will cost you around $60 to $80 to unlock it.
As for the cost of buying an iPhone, while an outright price is still unknown, our source suggested that Optus will sell it for $239 on a 12 month contract.
Not sure on Vodafone at this stage.
But crikey, $100 plan with $800 included calls? You'd want to be a pretty heavy phone user. I don't know anyone who racks up $800 worth of calls in a month.
But the 1GB data is pretty decent. 200MB/mo seems to be plenty to receive emails and light web browsing.
